MUSIC PROMOTION SERVICES
There are a lot of music promotion services, and they don't all sell the same thing. Some pitch your song to curators. Some buy ads. Some guarantee airplay. Here's how to tell them apart and pick one that fits your goal.
THE MAIN TYPES OF MUSIC PROMOTION SERVICES
Radio promotion: a service or plugger sends your song to radio stations and follows up. Traditional campaigns can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars and still can't force a station to play it. Guaranteed-airplay shows like Independent Radio FM play every submitted song.
Playlist and curator platforms: you pay to send your song to playlist curators, bloggers or influencers. They listen and decide. Good for testing a song with many ears, but results vary.
PR and publicity: a publicist pitches your story to blogs, magazines and podcasts. Best when you have a release, a story, and some momentum already.
Social and ad campaigns: a service runs paid ads or influencer posts for your song. Useful for reach, but reach alone doesn't always turn into fans.
HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT SERVICE
Start with one clear goal: a radio credit, playlist adds, press, or new followers. Then pick the service built for that goal.
Ask what is guaranteed and what is not. "We'll send it to 200 curators" is not the same as "your song will be played."
Look for real feedback. A written review of your song helps you improve the next one, even when a campaign doesn't go viral.
RED FLAGS TO AVOID
Promises of a set number of streams, plays or followers for a low price. Fake streams can get your music removed from streaming services.
No way to see where your song actually went. A real service can tell you the station, show, playlist or outlet.
Long contracts or big upfront fees with no clear deliverable.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Are music promotion services worth it?
They can be, if the service matches your goal and is clear about what it delivers. Avoid anyone selling guaranteed streams or followers.
How much do music promotion services cost?
It varies widely. Curator submissions can cost a few dollars each, PR and radio plugging campaigns often run hundreds to thousands. Independent Radio FM is $49 a month for weekly guaranteed airplay and a DJ review.
Can a promotion service guarantee radio play?
Most radio pluggers can't, because stations decide. Independent Radio FM can, because it's the radio show itself and it plays every member's weekly song.
