HOW TO GET YOUR ELECTRONIC SONG ON THE RADIO

Electronic music is built for clubs and mixes, not for a three minute radio slot. The producers who get played are the ones who hand a host something ready to air.

    Make a radio edit

A six minute track with a two minute build will not get played. Cut a version that lands the drop inside the first minute and finishes under four minutes. Keep the full mix for DJs, send the edit to stations.

    Mind the loudness

Heavily limited masters get squashed again by broadcast processing and come out flat and harsh. Leave some headroom so the track still breathes on air.

Say what it is in one line

House, drum and bass, melodic techno, future bass. Hosts program by tempo and mood, so give them the genre and the BPM up front instead of a paragraph about your journey.

    Vocals travel further on radio

An instrumental has to be exceptional to hold a radio slot. If you have a topline or a vocal hook, that is the version to pitch.

    COMMON QUESTIONS

How do I get my electronic track played on the radio?

Send a radio edit under about four minutes that reaches the drop early, leave headroom in the master, and tell the host the subgenre and BPM. Specialist dance shows on community and online stations are where independent producers get played.

Do radio stations play instrumental dance music?

Some specialist shows do, but vocal tracks get picked far more often on general programming. Pitch a vocal version when you have one.
