Single Release Checklist for Independent Artists: What to Finish Before Release Day
Release day is easier when the important work is already done. A good checklist catches small mistakes before they become broken links, missing credits or rushed pitches.
Confirm the audio and the rights
Listen to the final file from start to finish. Check the opening, ending and track title. Confirm who wrote the song and who owns the recording. If you used a sample or a leased beat, read the permission terms. Do not assume paying for a beat gives you every right for every use.
Check the details with your distributor
Review your artist name, release date, cover art and contributor credits. Follow your distributor's delivery deadlines rather than treating a suggested schedule as a promise. In Spotify for Artists, upcoming music appears after distributor delivery. If the release is missing or wrong, contact your distributor before launch.
Prepare the story and the links
Write two sentences about what the song means and why you made it. Have a short bio, approved photo and contact ready. Test your listening links on a phone without signing in. Keep one main destination so listeners do not have to choose between ten different tasks.
Plan the week after launch
Set aside time for a performance clip, a thank-you post and a few targeted pitches. Release day is not the end of promotion. Use our release timeline planner to put the steps in order, then adjust it to your distributor's actual deadlines.
YOUR NEXT MOVE
Check your final audio, credits and public links today. Fix one issue before announcing the date.
