Exactly What to Send a Radio Station With Your Song
Most submissions get skipped for boring reasons, not musical ones. Here is the exact package to send so yours gets listened to.
The file
A mastered WAV is safest, with a 320kbps MP3 as a backup. Name it Artist Name - Song Title. Nothing else. No version numbers, no dates, no mix notes in the filename.
The clean version
If there is any explicit language, include a clean radio edit. Broadcast stations cannot air the original, and most will not ask you for an edit. They will just move on.
The details
Song title spelled exactly as you want it read on air, artist name, genre, release date, and songwriter and producer credits. Keep these in one document so every submission takes two minutes instead of twenty.
The pitch
Three or four sentences. Who you are, where you are from, what the song is, when it comes out. Add a streaming link and a download link. Skip the hype words. Music directors read hundreds of these a week and they are reading for the song, not the adjectives.
The follow up
One polite message about two weeks later. That is it. Spend the rest of that energy sending to five more shows.
