What a DJ Review Tells You That Streaming Numbers Cannot
Streaming dashboards tell you what happened. They never tell you why. A review from someone who plays records for a living does.
Skips are data, not an explanation
A high skip rate tells you people left. It does not tell you the intro was too long, the vocal was buried, or the hook arrived too late. Those are the things you can actually fix on the next song.
A DJ hears the song the way a room hears it
People who play music on air or in a room listen for different things than fans do: how the track opens, whether it holds through the middle, how it sits next to other songs. That is closer to how a stranger hears you than your own headphones will ever be.
Feedback is only useful if it is specific
Encouragement feels good and changes nothing. A useful review names what is working, names one thing that would lift the track, and says it plainly. That is the standard we hold our reviews to.
How reviews work here
Every song an Independent Radio FM member submits gets played on a Saturday show and gets a written review from our team. Reviews are private in your members area, and you can share them if you want to. Over a few months you end up with a record of how your songs are developing, written by people who hear a lot of music.
