How to Promote Your Electronic Music and Build a Following
Electronic music has its own rules. Producers get broken by other DJs playing their tracks, and everything you do should point toward that. Here is the realistic path.
DJ support is everything
The single most valuable thing in electronic music is another DJ playing your track. Send your best work to DJs who play your style, keep the message short, and make the download easy. One DJ rinsing your track in a recorded set does more than a month of ads.
Radio shows play unsigned electronic music
Dance and electronic radio shows are always hunting for new tracks, and a spin is a credit you can put in every demo email after it. Submit your cleanest, most finished track and make sure the loudness and mix are up to broadcast level.
Post the drop, and the process
Clips of the drop hitting work, but so does process content: building the bassline, the before and after of a mixdown. Producers and fans both follow producers who show how the record gets made.
Demo to labels the right way
Send one track, your best one, to labels that actually release your style. Use their demo process, name any DJ or radio support you already have, and never mass email. Ten targeted demos beat a hundred blind ones.
Finish more than you start
Every producer has a hard drive full of loops. The ones who get somewhere are the ones who finish records. Get feedback from people who hear a lot of music so you know which tracks are worth finishing and pushing.
Get your track on the radio
Independent Radio FM plays independent electronic music every week. For $49 a month you submit one song a week, every song gets played on our Saturday electronic show, and every song gets a written review from our team. Everyone is accepted. Airplay and feedback, every week.
